The Beginning!

Star gate, captain’s log 0901 rounding off to the nearest decimal point. Well I made it to SVEEEDEN! I am living in the 10th largest city in the country called Jonkoping which is on the 2nd largest lake in Europe. The city reminds me a lot like Victoria when it comes to the size and the fact that its downtown is on a big beautiful body of water.

I just finished my third day of classes but interestingly enough school “started” Monday of last week (August the 23rd). The first week of “school” consisted solely of themed binge drinking extravaganzas, group events, and ridiculously boring and useless info sessions that were curiously scheduled around 8 or 9 in the morning. This gave me ample time (about 4 hours tops) to regain my strength for the next day’s festivities. The whole orientation was planned by a student run society that is called “sexkreation”…… yes your red that correctly. It was an extremely well planned frosh week which tested your mind, body, and liver.

All exchange students were split into different “Faddar” group which went along with a movie ie Gladiators, Rambo, and my group police academy. Each day you would meet your group for events in order to get your team points and to pre-drink for the party at night. Monday there was a pre-party at the student pub in the business building then the main party was at a night club called “Club Ky”. I had the pleasure of meeting a couple of Sweeds when I arrived on the weekend. One of which is actually the owner of Club Ky which worked out very well for me and the rest of the Canadians because believe it or not we should up to the main party………. A tad bit late. But Anders got us out of the rain (which it does way to much here!) and into the club where we could enjoy all the comforts of a good old wholesome Swedish club. These include blackjack, a fine list of beverages to pick from, and of course dancing synced with laser shows that would send even the most hearty bar-star into a seizure. Tuesday night we were introduced to the student run club Akademian which is famed for it’s cheap drinks and great parties. Wednesday we had a beach party at the local “let anyone in bar” called “Centrum” The club was pretty large and had three packed dance floors. I am amazed by the DJ’s over here, there way better then anything we have back in Victoria. Thursday night we went back to Centrum for a EPIC toga party.

The parties just kept getting better everyone just kept getting more worn out and tired haha. It was a hilarious week. Everyone was so hung-over and tired 24/7 but we all pushed each other to keep trekking on.

Finally Friday came which was the Cudagra! THE 2000 PERSON POOL PARTY! It was a cornucopia of awesomeness! This was the best organized party I have ever been too. It had two indoor pools, one outdoor pool, numerous hot tubs, an insane foam tent, a beer tent, AND A CAFETERIA!!! It was so much fun! The only criticism I had was that it ended at 11pm so a bit to early. Saturday we went to Akademian for a traditional JIBs drinking game called “Caps” it’s a mix between king’s cup and beer pong. It’s a great game but you have to watch out for street weasels that didn’t bring any money or beer and keep sinking their caps into the king’s cup and thus get ample drunk for freezys.

Sunday night was the “Finsittning” Which was the closing ceremonies for the frosh week. Everyone dressed up really classy like then went to a sit down dinner. It was a great night and a great week. Everyone was sick by the end of it and not even the mightiest drinker could look at booze on Monday. You know it was a good time because by the end of it I had ripped open my foot and lost a fair amount of blood, got extremely sick for four days, and rolled my ankle and thus forcing me to crutch around Jonkoping.

I am a bit behind on my entries but I promise to add some pictures soon and more up to date stories and adventures. I’ll try to keep it relatively short as well I know some blogs that are just way to long, so please let me know if mine becomes one of those blogs you want to read but just don’t have time. Thanks for reading and throw me a line if your keeping up. Cheers and later days!
